Padel balls are important to play padel. Many people think that tennis balls and padel balls are the same. They look like that, but this is not the case. I’ll go into this in more detail.
Properties of the padel ball
Material
A padel ball is made of rubber. Different types of fiber are used between different brands. Felt is most commonly used in the padel industry. The difference is mainly in natural and synthetic fiber.
Weight, Dimension and Pressure
A padel ball always weighs between 56 and 59.4 grams. This is very close to each other, so you can hardly feel any difference in weight. The pressure should be within 4.6 and 5.2 kg per square centimeter. The diameter should be between 6.35 and 6.77 centimeters. Note these are the official rules, there will probably be balls with other properties but these are the properties for balls that matches are played with.
What is the difference between a tennis and a padel ball
The biggest difference in balls actually comes from the factory. Where with padel the rules are accurate and must be adhered to, this can vary a lot in tennis. A tennis ball manufacturer cannot guarantee that, for example, the pressure and bounce is just right. That is why there are many differences between tennis balls. That is why it is important to buy special padel balls. Then you know for sure that you have the right balls. The pressure in a padel ball is overall less which it makes it suitable for padel tennis.
Beginners and advanced balls
For beginners it is nice to purchase balls with a low pressure. This ensures a slower ball flight and a lower bounce. For more advanced players, the balls with a higher pressure are finer. They want faster ball flights and a higher bouncing ball.
