Padel is THE new craze in the sports world. It is played in more and more places and countries and more and more people join a club or try it. In Europe it is currently a kind of snowball effect. You hear more and more people who want to try it or have started to practice padel.
What is Padel Tennis?
Padel as most people have mentioned is a new and popular racket sport. It’s kind of a combination of squash and tennis. You play with 4 people in a 2 against 2 game. The field is 20 meters long and 10 meters wide, around the field are walls and some fencing. In the game you may use the walls by bouncing balls against them and playing the ball back. Because the field is smaller and an ‘unachievable’ ball can still come back through the walls, it is easy for everyone to pick up. There is a lot of fun and activity in the game, there is a level for everyone. Padel is certainly not about pure power and speed, with technique and tactics you will certainly come a long way! That is why this sport is interesting for everyone. With a hard smash you get another chance to hit the ball back because the ball still comes back through the wall that is behind / next to you. When you start it will take some getting used to with the walls you can use and the ball bouncing back. After getting used to it, it is easy to pick up and you will be able to play fun rallies!
You play with a padel ball. This one is very similar to a tennis ball only the pressure and size are different. The racket you play with is a padel racket. So this is a different racket as with tennis and squash. The racket is made of different materials. This can be carbon, but also fiberglass or graphite. The inside of the racket is made of shock-absorbing rubber. There is a cord attached to the racket, it is mandatory to put it around your wrist. This of course has to do with the safety of the game. The holes in the racket are there to make the racket maneuverable and it ensures less air resistance and aerodynamics. There are different rackets for different levels. How did padel originate?
Padel was invented by a man named: Enrique Corcuera. Its a real businessman. When he did not have
the space to set up a tennis court at home, he came up with something else. He invented another
sport. With a field of 20 meters long and 10 meters wide with large walls around it. A net in the
middle to make 2 squares. The field was of course smaller than a tennis court, so the racket had to
be different. He used small wooden rackets. In 1974 the first European padel club was founded in
Marbella. The first players were mainly wealthy elite. After this, the sport was introduced in
Argentina and then the train left. It grew very fast with thousands of new clubs and players.
